I can't tell you how happy I was when I clicked on this community! It's refreshing to really see a nice and supportive group offering some great advice and encouragement! So... of course I just had to join.
My name is Jess and I have embarked on, what my friends have considered, an "absolutely crazy" adventure. I've committed myself to race in the 2006 El Tour de Tucson this coming November. It's a 109 mile bike race through the desert. But here's the thing... I'm not the most physically fit woman in the world and I was never what one might call an athlete.
So I traded in my old journal, and created a new user account (this one, nj_queen) to focus totally on my physical and mental fitness. I need to lose about 25lbs and have certain goals on my bike I would like to accomplish. I do have 6 months to prepare, but am so out of shape I feel like I probably need 6 more to achieve it!
Once I start my training (waiting for the weather to clear here on the east coast) I will be on a seven week program that will keep me exercising 6 times a week on my bike. I've never attempted anything like this before. I'm afraid I will completely fail and just throw in the helmet half way through. I also grew up in a VERY food-centered family and often find making the right choices at meal times extremely difficult. But I hope that support from friends and perhaps advice from you all will keep me motivated!
I am hindu, and my patron goddess is Sarasvati. I was so happy to see her image when I tracked down the Goddess Gallery! As in the river named after her, Sarasvati means "one who flows" and I seek fluidity and knowledge in my life. She represents enlightenment, the arts, and power. She embodies grace and strength.
